The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre Group and Gothia Towers sign up as main partner at finishing line of Volvo Ocean Race

21-28 June 2015 will see the conclusion of a leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in Gothenburg, which is also the finishing line for the competition. The main partner for what is expected to be an exciting and action-packed leg will be the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre Group and Gothia Towers, which will be providing the event’s exhibition area at the finishing point in Frihamnen.

“Working with such a high-profile, professional event is a real honour for us,” says Carin Kindbom, CEO of the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, of which Gothia Towers is a part. “This is a global event, which gives us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our all-inclusive offering while also meeting a number of interesting target groups.”

350,000 people are expected to visit Frihamnen during the seven days in June. The exhibition area will consist of various different pavilions, restaurants and event areas. A variety of private and public events will be arranged.

“Our size and capacity at Gothia Towers is now ideal for large-scale events,” adds Daniel Stenbäck, CEO of Gothia Towers. “We see this as a long-term strategic focus – a focus that is also part of our ambition to help attract more visitors to Gothenburg.”

At the same time, the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre will also be staging the Welcome Home Expo – a 7,000 m² fair in Frihamnen. As the name suggests, the emphasis will be on housing and accommodation with related products. Mobile housing, supplemental housing, gardening, décor and home design are just a few of the themes that will be found in the exhibition area. There will also be a seminar section for business meetings and inspiration.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to add experience value for all those who will be visiting Frihamnen for the end of the race,” says Ulrika Liss-Daniels, CEO of Svenska Mässan Mässor & Möten AB. “This is a unique chance for us to offer business creation forums where many Swedish companies can generate publicity and meet new customers.”

The Volvo Ocean Race began in Alicante, Spain, on 4 October 2014. For the first time in the history of the competition, all the teams will be competing with identical boats – a brand new model called the Volvo Ocean 65. Seven teams are taking part, with the Swedish Team SCA competing with an all-female crew.
