Daniel Stenbäck takes over at Gothia Towers

Petter hands over the reins!

On 1 October, Daniel Stenbäck took over as CEO of Gothia Towers in Gothenburg, assuming overall responsibility for all hotel, restaurant and event operations. Former CEO Petter Ullberg may be handing over the reins to Daniel, but he will not be leaving the company.

Petter will remain as Vice CEO of the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre Foundation, with responsibility for the completion of the GothiaTowers construction project which will continue until March 2015. Petter is now handing over the reins as CEO of Gothia Towers to Daniel Stenbäck.
“Yes, and it’s a fantastic feeling!” says Petter. “After 13 years at GothiaTowers, a 24-hour operation, it’ll be nice to have a little more time to myself.”

What have you enjoyed most during your time as CEO of Gothia Towers?
“I have so many great memories. For example, the EU summit in 2001 with ten of Europe’s heads of state and government as our guests was an excellent challenge to start off with. And then there’s our Italian restaurant Incontro: opening a little piano bar in the hotel lobby, which just grew and grew until it eventually outgrew the lobby and had to be relocated to its own premises on Korsvägen! That was fantastic.
“And we’ve managed to break hotel records, and – despite our size – have succeeded in achieving average occupancy levels of 74%, year after year. And finally helping to create our new 5-star product, Upper House, has been an incredible experience.”

But the time has now come to move on from the role of CEO. Daniel Stenbäck took over from Petter on 1 October.
Daniel joins us from Clarion Hotel Post.
“What attracted me to GothiaTowers was the current expansive development phase,” explains Daniel. “My role will be to develop a product that stands up internationally, to take advantage of the development opportunities, and to create a new market that sets its sights on the Nordic region, Europe and the world. I’m passionate about this challenge.”

Daniel Stenbäck:
Daniel Stenbäck has many years of experience within the hotel and meeting industry. He has been CEO of Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg since the hotel opened, before which he worked in group management for Nordic Choice Hotels in Oslo. He has also been Group Manager of First Hotels and spent a period working as a conference manager in Kalmar.

Gothia Towers’ construction project:
Gothia Towers is currently expanding to become one of Europe’s biggest city-based meeting facilities. A total of SEK 1.2 billion is being invested in the project. Once the third tower is complete at the end of next year the hotel will have 1,200 rooms, making it one of the five biggest hotels in Europe. New meeting rooms, restaurants and a function room are also being created.
On 1 September this year Upper House was opened. This is Gothia Towers’ 5-star sister hotel, which has been built on top of the middle tower and features luxurious hotel rooms, the gourmet restaurant Upper House Dining and a spa and relaxation suite.
